This presentation details the industry terminology, planning and uses of Erosion Control & Stormwater Best Management Practices and products for successful use in design and implementation; as well as helping with compliance in the golf course industry.
The information is presented through examples of BMP products used on mid-Atlantic golf courses and appropriate for golf course superintendents nationwide. Best Management Practices and products discussed can be used for golf course construction or everyday usage in challenging course areas.

About the Presenter: Joe Belmonte is the Business Development Manager for Environmental Construction Solutions. He has been in the construction products industry for nearly two decades, with a focus on turfgrass and erosion control for the last eleven years. Joe is a Certified by Virginia DEQ as a Program Administrator for Erosion & Sediment Control and Stormwater. A board member of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of IECA, he has been published in Stormwater magazine and routinely speaks at regional industry conferences. Joe has worked with engineers, municipalities and contractors on some of the Mid-Atlantic’s most challenging erosion jobsites including landfills, transmission and pipelines, solar farms, streambank and mine reclamations.
Understanding How Water & Soils Interact for promoting Healthy Turf
The presenters are Todd Eden, Principal of HCT, LLC and Developer of the WaterSOLV™ Program and Robert Oppold, Principal of Robert Oppold & Associates and New Mix Laboratories.
Presenters will show new analytical test methods and the results, for water, soil and available nutrition, redefined test methods that address both the chemical and physical properties of soil health, remediation and sustainability.
Todd Eden - CEO & Principal of HCT, LLC (Scottsdale, AZ), educated in banking & finance at Arizona State University. Since 1976, an entrepreneur and empirical scientist in chemistry formulating over 350 institutional chemicals which lead into process water intellect for the management of scale, corrosion, biology and toxins. Since 2013, HCT Solutions are nationally distributed for agriculture, turf, nurseries, landscape and water wells. Products certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), and the National Organic Program (NOP). HCT Solutions are making water a better solution to remediate and sustain soils, waters and water wells while increasing crop production for less money and with less water.
Factors affecting fungicide performance and control of root/soil pathogens of warm-season turfgrass
Brian Aynardi is the Northeast R&D Scientist and Manager of University and Contract Research for PBI-Gordon Coporation, a position he has held since December of 2016. His responsibilities include protocol development and placement for new active ingredients and developing next generation products for the company’s turf and ornamental portfolio. Brian received his B.S. In Turfgrass Science in 2007, and his Ph.D. In Plant Pathology in 2016, both from the Pennsylvania State University. Brian’s graduate research focused on population biology and molecular detection of the pathogen(s) causing dollar spot of turf grass. He also served as a research technician from 2010-2016, where he was responsible for spraying and evaluating fungicides for their efficacy in prevention and control of a variety of diseases affecting turf grass.

This 60-minute presentation will cover many topics from observations of golf courses in 2023. This will be an in depth agronomic and pest recap for the year and will include: slow growth in the spring, lack of annual bluegrass weevils, dollar spot severity, algae and other important issues observed in 2023. Attendees will gain a better understanding of how the 2023 weather impacted growth rates and pest management. New pesticide options and research results will also be presented.
Using and Understanding Wetting Agents and Adjuvants
Matt Fleetwood is responsible for managing the turfgrass product portfolio of adjuvants, soil surfactants and other supplemental maintenance products to assess and provide the best solutions to our customers. Matt joined Precision in 2022, to handle our experimental product pipeline, research trials and new product launches, as well as working in tandem with various departments internally to bring our innovative solutions into the turf market. Fleetwood completed his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia, with emphasis areas in Crop Management and Breeding, Biotechnology, and Biology. In addition, he also completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Plant, Insect and Microbial with his dissertation focus being centralized around assessing and characterizing the performance of soil surfactants in turfgrass. Being a former youth athlete and current avid golfer, Fleetwood understands the need to provide the tools to create a great outdoor playing surface for all ages. His passion for innovation and results leads him to strive to provide the best solutions for our customers.
